Hydroptilidae (family) (Micro-caddisfly)

Micro-caddisflies are the smallest of all Trichoptera, adults having a wingspan of 4-12mm. The aquatic larvae pass through 5 instars, the first 4 of which are free-living while the 5th constructs and lives inside a purse-shaped silken case. Most feed on algae, but some are predatory on eggs od aquatic invertebrates.
