I’ve never really thought about what grasshoppers ate - until tonight. I didn’t realise they were predators, so tonight was a bit of an eye opener, seeing this grasshopper feeding on a moth it must have caught. Honestly, I was a bit grossed out - one day I’ll toughen up and accept ‘that’s nature!’

Actual grasshoppers Acrididae are all herbivores. Half the katydid species Tettigoniidae are predators as are all the Raspy and Forest crickets

Thank you - I remember you telling me, Roger, and it's been a very useful distinction to help differentiate. However, I was just a bit weirded out by seeing its mandibles moving as it consumed the moth, so didn't concentrate on the species . . .
