Thanks Jackie for the interesting bit of info about Acacia mearnsii. I didn't check but I reckon that's what it was as they're very common at that spot. Hoping for a few more fungi after the rain.
Steph if you remember where you see this species, they will reappear in the same piece of wood after some wet weather. Then when things get dry they dry up becoming a brownish orange colour little stubs and disappear back into the wood. You can amaze your friends by knowing where to find such a special little species. One of my favourites. I used in lab. sessions at Uni. - taking in an uninteresting dry bit of wood and placing it into water so that by the end of the session there would always be a lovely display. Only problem with that was the students would keep asking 'Is it ready yet?'!
