Sheoak Jewel Beetle feeding on flowers of Babbingtonia in garden. Its larvae are white legless borers which tunnel into the the sapwood of the trunks of sheoaks including Allocasuarina littoralis forming interconnected oval tunnels.
Thanks Jackie, I have been collecting insects all my life and have a great library of insect books. I did a year of enytomology at Uni and as I said earlier there are some great insect sites on the net. And the Jewel Beetles are a much favoured group with insect enthusiasts and pretty well known. So I was pretty confident with the name!
